I’ve got an announcement.
My first book, The Liberal Arts Techie, is live on Amazon. It’s a book that I started last August when I was in Europe and had a lot of time to myself to think.
Those of you that know me, know that I work in tech, but I didn’t start here.
I started with an offbeat liberal arts degree (in Rhetoric), and graduated at the height of the 2009 recession.
Those of us that graduated during that time know firsthand that even though we had college degrees, jobs were hard to find.
I watched all my fellow graduates settle service industry jobs, or gut it out unemployed. But there was something in me that refused to accept that as my fate.
College hadn’t prepared me for the real world, so I was lucky to have no idea how blind I was to any sort of barriers to me getting a challenging, exciting, well-paying job.
I simply refused to settle. And then I got my first job in tech. And then I got my second job in tech.
And then suddenly I was in San Francisco.
And then suddenly work was taking me to New Zealand.
And about a year ago, people started coming to me for resume and interview help.
After coaching a few dozen people, I decided I might as well write a book about what I’d learned.
The result was The Liberal Arts Techie.
